Short biography
A. Zavarelli is a USA Today and Amazon bestselling author.

She likes all things chocolate, books that come with warnings, and putting her characters through hell. Her tales have been known to flirt with darkness and sometimes court it unabashedly altogether. Revenge themes and tortured souls are her favorites to write and this gives her an excuse to watch bizarre and twisted documentaries in her spare time.

She currently lives in the Northwest with her lumberjack and an entire brood of fur babies.

I have never rated an A. Zavarelli novel below four stars until now. This author has rapidly become one of my ‘auto-buy’ authors and until now I have never been let down by one of her books, but I felt so uncomfortable with this book I just can’t read on.
The plot revolves around con-artist Gypsy and her vulnerable, troubled younger sister Birdie. They have been on their own for a while when Lucian West, a criminal attorney takes an interest in show more Gypsy and decides to make her his wife.
My overwhelming issue with Confess is that I loathed Lucian from the second he appeared on the page. This isn’t a romance; he is a psychopath and Gypsy is his victim.

“If I were a sexually motivated man, I might have considered her a nice trophy, but to me, she was just another tragedy.” (Lucien - Chapter 5)

Lucian decides that he wants Gypsy to live with him as his wife and sexual partner for two years and to this end, he arranges for her teenage sister to be spied upon and photographed in compromising situations before his associate kidnaps the vulnerable girl and holds her hostage at gunpoint until Gypsy agrees to his demands.

“Birdie broke down again, sobbing uncontrollably while I tried to come up with a plan. But apart from kicking this dude in the nuts and trying to run before he shot and killed us both, I had nothing.” (Gypsy – Chapter 6)

Gypsy has no choice to but to agree to the marriage. She is only twenty three years old and about to be forced into marrying a forty year old man to save her sister’s life. Nothing about this is remotely romantic in my view.

“When he circled around [the desk] I tried to stay brave. But he was taller than I was, and stronger than I was, and it was hard to deny those things when we were face to face. ..Without warning his hand shot out behind me and gripped me by the hair, tightening until I was forced to tilt my head up in his direction…he yanked his fist in a downward motion, and I squeaked as my head, and the handful of hair he was holding followed.” (Gypsy – Chapter 8)

I cannot repeat often enough that this is not romantic! This isn’t love or anything like it. There is no excuse for Lucian to treat Gypsy this way and these opening chapters read like the start of a horror or crime-fiction novel to me.
The idea this vile character is actually going to get a ‘happy ever after’ with his victim actually disgusts me.

Beast is the first book in her "Twisted Ever After" and after reading her Cinderella retelling, I was very curious to see her take on Beauty and the Beast. I definitely think I had too many high hopes for this one. I can see why this book appeals to some readers though because its a very compelling read. That is a pure talent from this author, she really pulls you into her stories. However, this book wasn't as good as I expected and was way more dark than I thought we would get here. Now I show more can handle many types of dark elements in a story, but a hero abusing the heroine in the way that he does...its bad. I mean he literally constantly tortures her at least until the very end. And that is what was disappointing. It just felt like so much darkness with not enough swoons and soft emotions to balance it out and really make the dark elements worth the investment. And while I was intrigued by the connections that we see to the Beauty and Beast retelling, in fact, it was these relations to the classic tale that kept me with this story. The hero was a real challenge to enjoy. I wanted to like him as a hero, but I just couldn't get past how violent he was against the heroine.

Overall while it had some factors that were a challenge, It had quite a few redeeming qualities that kept me going and the ending was beyond poignant and heartfelt!

I absolutely devoured it, but I wasn't prepared for how intense and addictive it would be. This book leans hard into dark romance, obsession, and emotional damage in the best way. Romeo Vitale is a masked, tortured antihero who lives in the shadows, and his fixation on Gabi is equal parts terrifying and heartbreaking. Beneath his cruelty is a fierce, unwavering devotion that pulled me in completely. Gabi, meanwhile, is vulnerable yet quietly strong, and I loved watching her grow into her own show more power. Their chemistry crackles with tension, yearning, and danger, and the predator-prey dynamic is deliciously unhinged. This isn't a light read; it's dark, emotional, and consuming, but if you love morally gray heroes and high-stakes romance, this one hits hard. show less
GOOD LORD... This author duo can write some suspense mixed with just enough darkness that it keeps me on the edge of my seat. This book picks up where the last book ended and kept me going until the very end. I am not even kidding when I say that this is suspenseful. Just when I thought I had things figured out things changed.

There is so much at play here. Between Mercedes, Abel, The Society, and even Santiago himself I had no idea what to think. What I do know is that not all the secrets show more with Santiago's past have come to light and I am all aboard this crazy train to get the answers. I almost wanted to cry when it ended on a WICKED cruel cliffhanger.

The authors did a great job at digging deeper into the characters and their motivations and I was mesmerized watching them grow. I felt their emotions from the simple things of being cold to the desire for love and vengeance. Santiago is a complex character but I felt like Ivy is cracking that armor. I wanted to almost cry by a certain scene at the end of the book. That is the sign of good writing when authors can make me experience real emotions. The authors have created this amazing story that I didn't know that I even needed and or wanted.

This is an amazing story that continually builds on mystery, suspense, a sprinkle of darkness, chemistry despite the odds, and a deep-seated desire for seeking justice. And don't even get me started on the steamy times... some of the best hate smex ever.

I need the conclusion like I need air to breathe. They killed it with another amazing cover and story and so far this trilogy is going in my best of 2021. Kudos to the author for creating this amazing book.
