Much of the first paragraph describing this story was taken from Amazon's description of this book: Jonathan managed to escape from pirates on the river. It took all his strength to swim to shore and fall into the brush along the bank, unconscious from exposure and exhaustion. Lily, a half British and half Chinook girl, found him there as she was carrying out her plan to escape, or die trying, from her Cayuse captors.
Together the two flee from the Indians and pirates high into the Cascade show more Mountain Range with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Through difficulty and danger, they encounter God as they have never experienced Him before. And they come to grips with those things that bring true significance to life. These first adventures of Jonathan and Lily are recounted in David Young's debut novel.

I enjoyed this story line and it did a really good job of making you feel like you were there with these two people, sharing in the hardships and struggles as they were escaping danger. It ended rather suddenly, and I had to look on line to see if the author finished this story with another book, and sure enough, I found book two in this series, "Out of the Wilderness", and will begin this soon so I can see what happens in Jonathan and Lily's life. This was not so much a "romance" novel, but a story of survival, of sharing of one's faith and of falling in love (and pretty much in that order).
