A beautifully designed book. The author is an artist first and foremost, and the illustrations are exquisitely detailed. Interesting story of the background of the well-known old ballad, but it's a short story, because Maggie died tragically young, at age 23 after only a year of marriage, from tuberculosis.

I had no idea that this old song, which I heard as a child in the midwestern USA, actually originated in southwestern Ontario.
