This book, part of a series, follows four friends who use math skills to solve a theft during the Christmas season in their small town. The story takes place during a holiday festival where someone steals a valuable gift, and the friends must work together to crack the case. This book is important because it shows how math can be useful and exciting outside the classroom. I would recommend it for middle grade readers to build excitement about math, teamwork, and critical thinking.
The Math Inspectors follows four sixth graders as they use their detective and math skills to solve a mystery of a stolen piece of jewelry. The book includes math problems that students can solve and teachers can use to make activities. I believe this would be a good chapter book for teachers to have in a classroom because it involves math in a fun way, but not all students will be engaged in the mystery aspect of the book.
I wanted something to read that was quick and easy. Something that held my attention and just took me for a ride, without having to work for it.

I saw this ebook and liked the premise, so decided to give it a try. Maths isn’t my thing and I was a bit concerned that might be an issue, but it wasn’t.

The author kept the pace going. The inspector team worked well together and I enjoyed the humour and the mystery side of the storyline. The book includes some black and white illustrations, show more which I felt complemented the story, and gave the author’s impression on what the four main characters look like. Again, I have no issue with that.

My only issue is that while the first ebook is free, the second ebook costs $6.49 for Australians to purchase, and that is expensive (in my opinion) for a digital book. I refuse to pay that so will be leaving the series here, which is a shame.

This book is a fictional book where the students in the book go on adventures and use mathematics such as the Pythagorean Theorem to solve mysteries. I think this is a beneficial read because it incorporates math in a way that is enjoyable for students to read by relating to middle grade students through the characters’ fears and desire. Even though not every scenario in the book is realistic it still uplifts the idea that the Pythagorean Theorem can be used in our lives outside of school show more to solve a variety of different situations. show less
