OH MY, WHAT A TALE! I was so caught up with following Verity and helping her find her aunt that the tale ended way before I was ready! Self imposed Verity chose to never leave her apartment after she and her husband were involved in a car crash that ultimately took his life. To make matters worse, her aunt's attorney called to say that her aunt was presumed dead after her car was found in the lake! With two murders occurring just days AFTER she arrived in the village and SHE is the prime show more suspect she is determined to find her aunt. I AM SO GLAD THAT THIS IS ONLY BOOK ONE! show less
Canada, situational-humor, verbal-humor, law-enforcement, amateur-sleuth, small-business, small-town, cosy-mystery*****
Verity Hawkes lives in a village in Canada, has an inherited small landscaping business, a fiance who is a police detective, an interesting aunt who may or may not still work for a corporate espionage agency, and a burgeoning talent for sleuthing. She also has a friend whose goat is accused of murdering the owner of the local septic removal driver by butting him into an show more empty septic tank (which would have been amazing considering the narrow opening). The plot keeps getting more convoluted and funnier at the same time! I loved it! I think it could stand alone, but it would make me want to read any I'd missed just for the fun of it!

I enjoyed this book immensely. Rickie Blair has a knack for creating likable characters and weaving an entertaining plot. Her characters have substance and by the time you're reading the 4th chapter you feel like you know them personally.
From Garden to Grave has a serious story line but yet there are also times throughout where I couldn't help but laugh at how Verity, Emy and Lorne were going about their stakeouts.
Verity Hawkes had essentially secluded herself from the world for the past 2 show more years. She even ordered groceries online because she didn't want to leave her apartment. Then got a call from an attorney letting her know that her eccentric aunt was missing and she needed to come to Leafy Hollow to sort out her affairs.
She arrives and her aunt's business is almost bankrupt and there are hints that she had some kind of secret life. Verity is sure she isn't dead and she will find out what happen which leads in to a whole new set of problems because 2 murders occur and Verity is a suspect.
This is a delightful cozy mystery that once I started reading I didn't want to put it down. I highly recommend From Garden To Grave to anyone that enjoys a good book! show less
