These poems are a bleak broken openness of grief, but underlying that is a kind of contentment? Peace? Love for the world anyway? I feel like most of the vibe of the collection can be summed up by the poem "Bad News, Again," which starts out grieving the 2015 Charleston church shooting and ends up outside, noting a young girl on the corner:
But she looked at me
like a child. She spun
her head. She laughed
& laughed at my awful music
& I thought Oh. Yes.
This is the world
with me in it. It show more is
beautiful. It is. show less

A really beautiful collection, even as it grapples with difficult things. Awkward-Rich's reflections on the sensations of being surrounded by death, have it pressing in, and have to tread water on how to continue with all of that. Favorite poems include "Meditations in an Emergency" and "Love Poem."
Every. Goddamn. Word. In. This. Book. Makes. Me. Want. To. Sing.
