I have just started to go back and look at all the text books and information books I collected and used during my training and work as a marine engineer in the Royal New Zealand Navy. This is one I bought in England during the '70s when I was training at Royal Naval Engineering College Manadon. It cost 15/6 back then - before the new pound and the euro. Its a great book that I have trouble reading now, especially the theory parts. I remember the practice because I really loved that part of show more the work I did and it's fun looking at cross-sections of fire tube boilers, Belliss engines and reaction turbines. The first edition of this book was published in 1899. This is the seventh edition. I can't imagine that it's much use to today's engineers or their teachers and I'm not qualified to be able to reliably rate it but I'm going to keep it on my shelves. It's a neatly produced book and it's fun to dip into every now and then. It also reminds me of an wonderful time in my earlier life as a naval engineer. show less
