The author is promoted as best-selling and award-winning so i was flumoxed by the intrusive typos in my giveaway copy of the book. I can see that the accolades are true for the action-packed science fiction story, with its excellently built world, characters and plot, but I can't forgive those typos in my rating.

not a bad YA story. interesting characters, unusual plot. what kept me from giving it another star was the science behind distance, where almost everyone talks about distances and travel times from any one galaxy to another as if it were simple and quick... that, and near the end, one of the villains makes it sound like earth is known well-enough to "visit" sometime soon for nefarious purposes. oh, and the telepathic link across millions of lightyears is mechanical in nature (take a show more programmed pill), but so high quality that it feels like real-life... show less
I enjoyed the premise and the concept of the story, I just think it could be cleaned up/done better. I didn't really care for the Aphrodites/Olympus Gods aspect, and when she spoke the people of Earth it seemed a little cheesy (IMHO). I would also expect the different alien races to speak differently. They all sounded human to me. It also seemed to me that Univesium and English are exactly the same thing except for the Human slang. We kept hearing Chase mention that they were different, but show more it wasn't present in the writing.

As I said, I liked the story and concept and will probably read the next to see what happened, but I do think it could use some tightening up.

While I mostly enjoyed the story, there were some plot elements and dialogue/actions that were difficult for me to accept.
