The series ends with a bang, and a big step-up in writing. Where the previous books displayed little patience in main plotlines, often introducing a new twist situation only briefly before resolving it immediately, Wicked Witch picked up on the meta-plots hiding as background elements in the previous books. Not only this, but we're introduced to a new mystery at the start of this book based on events at the end of book 9, which leaves readers wondering, "Hey, what about X?" for quite a while show more before letting us in on the secret.
Tess Lake has shown she's capable of pacing her plots, letting the anxiety simmer, and ultimately paying off some long-term planning. I do wish there was more of it throughout the series, but even so this is a nice reward for those who stuck with the series for the whole run. show less

Never heard of a slip witch before, but it sounds like pain to be one. As far as the butter carving contest, while I'm used to them here in northern climes, it seems more than odd for the mid-Atlantic states. Beyond that stuff, it was a hilarious romp of mystery and a dysfunctional family of witches. The publisher's blurb gives some clues without spoilers.
I was fortunate to get the audio edition, and Natalie Duke show more was great as the audio performer, with a pleasant voice and ease of characterization.

This book is a nice little mystery. I enjoyed the characters. The MC and her family are quite unique. There is one scene in the book in which the MC doesn't remember part of her day and as people are filling her in on her actions, I found myself laughing. She had quite the day! Overall, a pleasant book.
I started this series out, feeling kind of "meh" about the first book. When that's the case, I usually won't pick up the next book in the series, but something told me to keep going. Sure enough, book 2 was better, and so on and so on, and I was hooked. Now I have reached the end, and I am a little sad, like saying goodbye to someone you've known awhile. At the same time, I'm pleased that the author did not choose to drag a series out far more than it needed to go, and gave this one proper show more closure.
I hope that we will be seeing a new cast of characters in a new series in the near future. show less
