Each vignette is one perforated page, front and back, that gives information on the history of a mathematical idea or the biography of a mathematician, followed by suggestions for research or exploration activities. The material is written clearly and the topics are at perhaps a high school level at the median. I like having it on my shelf because it places mathematics in context and is approachable enough to contemplate sharing with younger siblings. The fact that it includes many articles show more on mathematics in different cultures, at different times in history, and by women as well as men helps to place mathematics within the scope of human activities and liberal arts. Flip through this book, see what grabs you, and try reading a little of that history alongside your next unit of study that overlaps the topic. show less
