I really loved this book. First, it's so refreshing to read about an older couple. She worries about the physical toll of her job, he has the life he has built and questions whether the life he mapped out still makes sense. It's great to see these questions wrestled with. It's also great to see a character who has already gone through her self-discovery phase, rather than have it happen in the story. Her challenge is to stay true to the person she's become while navigating this relationship show more from the past.

I'm a big fan of stories where the conflict arises from who the characters are rather than from misunderstandings or one character hiding something from another. The only thing these two hide are their feelings, and even that doesn't drag out. The story moves at a fine pace, smoother than the first two books in this series. In the end, the solution they work out for themselves rings true to their relationship and who they are. It was very satisfying.

It's also nice to briefly see Magda, the heroine of book two who seems to be the connector between the books. Hope there are more books in this series.

A sports romance between a mediocre, aging out hockey player and the neurologist who treated his best friend for a concussion.

Adam and Helen had great and convincing chemistry. They attempted the "oh we're so wrong for each other but let's hit it and quit it" then found themselves hurt and orbiting around one another in a subtle, convincing manner.

He ignored her. “To sum up, I’m a sophisticated gentleman with urbane and practical tastes and you’re a Pop-Tart.”Helen sat back and show more marveled. “You know, the problem with you is that you’re smarter than I’d like you to be.”

I relished the little details from the book, like Adam's traveling suits being easy, him noticing her hands of anger. His perception was glorious, and her tripping into vulnerability was equally rewarding.

He had begun to be able to interpret the moods of her pauses and avoided answers. Skimming his fingers over the bumps of their conversation, he read the sadness underneath.

Satisfying, but I could've read more!

Somehow this never added to my books the first time through on Kindle--anyway, a delightful fast read, cozy and sexy by turns, full of neighborly wanderlust, delicious architectural details, and great dialogue.
This was much better than the first book. Our leads both have real challenges in their lives and their conflict arises from those differences, which allows them to be honest and communicate. There are other wonderful characters that have their own journeys which adds to the richness of the story.

This book has a lot to say about loss and a sense of place and it does it in a beautiful way.
