Marion, the hedgehog, loves books and takes them with her everywhere. When she starts school, she's thrilled to be able to borrow from the library. But when she reads a library book at the breakfast table, an accident with some raspberry jam starts a chain reaction similar to the red splot in Cat In the Hat Comes Back. She gets the dog to lick it, then scrubs it with toothpaste, then brings it in the bathtub to wash...will she ever get the stain out?

This one is fun as a read-aloud because we show more become increasingly alarmed at what she's doing to the book! show less
This was an okay start-of-the-year story and I understand the intent, but in other ways it felt like another talking animal life lesson story that I could take or leave. It was fun, but not a favorite. I did appreciate their use of the washing machine to clean up the book. How innovative and horrifying at the same time!

I used this picture book with my 6th grade class and the kids were enthralled. After reading, we went down to the library and tested ourselves to see if the book was right : "It's easy to find information on anything if you know the Dewey Decimal System."
I have never seen kids so excited about browsing. From all over the library I heard things like "I'm going to look for grasshoppers...It should be in the 500's because they are in the natural word, then a few minutes later, "I found it! show more Grasshoppers!" MAgnify that success by 27 students and you have a picture of what it was like. I will use this book EVERY Year! It was great! From Loves Books show less

When Marion Copied: Learning About Plagiarism is the thoughtful and entertaining picturebook story of Marion's copying a paper from the internet, and the lesson which Mr. Owen has to teach the class about plagiarism. Following Marion's class through an elaborate but easy-to-follow explanation of the proper way to cite writings and summarize correctly, When Marion Copied offers young readers an unique introduction to what may happen if they copy school work (or any other work) from any show more sources, most especially including the internet. A critically important addition to all elementary school library collections, When Marion Copied is very highly recommended for all teachers and parents of children as highly informative, thoughtful, and non-threatening, helpful and effective guide through the problems associated with plagiarism. - Midwest Book Review show less
