NCLA Review - Annie and Adam have a sleepover in Grandpa’s hayloft on a visit to his farm. They gaze at the stars, admiring God’s handiwork. Soon the children’s questions begin. Grandpa explains who God is, who made God, and where is God? The next morning, Grandpa takes them fishing. While they wait for the fish to bite, they continue their conversation about God, and the children learn that God creates everything for a purpose, even a worm. God put dots on ladybug and also gave Adam show more freckles! When they gather eggs, they see a baby chick poking its head from under its mother’s wing. God uses this example in the Bible to let us know we are safe in His love and care, Grandpa explains. This is theology at its best for children but adults will learn from it too. The illustrations are an absolute delight, sure to bring a smile to both children and adults who read to them. This book successfully presents Biblical information on the deeper things of God in a language that children will understand. Ages 5-8. Rating: 4 —BM show less
NCLA Review - I am sure that each of us has wondered what heaven will be like. Children have an innate curiosity about God’s creation and have many questions. This picture book by Kathleen Ruckman may help parents and teachers answer the question, what will heaven be like? When Annie asks her grandfather about heaven and what it will be like her grandfather’s answers are simple, honest and based on Biblical truths about the Kingdom of God and His love for us. Bright illustrations show more complement the simple text and offer children comfort and hope. As Kathleen Ruckman states in her dedication, “there will be a Grand Reunion in heaven some day, and it will be more wonderful that we can imagine!” She has shared this profound belief with children in this “heavenly” book. A parent/teacher guide is included in back of the book. Rating: 3 —MF show less
