In episode one, Josy Barrows discovered her parents weren't who she thought they were, got an invitation from a previously unknown aunt, and found herself shoved through a portal to The Magic Side--where she learned she had magic powers, was enrolled in the Borealis Academy, found she was a misfit there, too. Then the Academy is attacked, and her powers--temporarily--are fully under her control long enough to play a crucial role in defending the Academy from the attack.

So now, in episode show more two, everything is great, right?

No, of course not. She's discovered that her mother was not just a witch and her father a wizard, which would be totally cool here, but her mother was a Morelli, the source of Josy's white hair and her magic that is just a little different from the other witches and wizards. And the Morelli are believed to be completely evil. Josy wouldn't be at the Academy at all, if her father had been Morelli, too.

And when one of her professors, whom she was discussing poisonous herbs with earlier in the day, suddenly dies, Josy becomes the obvious suspect. The one professor she really trusts is keeping secrets from her. She and her few friends, including her talking cat, Nine, are on their own to find out what really happened.

It's engaging and enjoyable, but it does assume you've listened to, or read, the previous episode. Still, I liked it a lot, and do recommend it.

I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

This story starts off as many young adult dystopian novels do – girl coming of age finds herself unique in some way that changes her fate in ways she never expected. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, only that it is a key feature of this genre which can occasionally come off a cheesy (where’s the love story… oh wait. There it is. Yup, 2 guys so which one will she choose). With that said, and what I appreciated most, was the unique aspects of this book. For example (without giving show more too much away) is the approach taken on what skills the main character possess and her interaction with the world. Its not about her agility and athletic nature that set her apart from others (which I’ve seen often be the case) but her mental abilities (#NerdUnite?). I would be lying if I didn’t also mention that I will forever enjoy and appreciate the strong independence that the main [female] character possesses and that her success is not defined by that of a male. Though, here, the author also makes a point to not ignoring the importance that all relationships have on us, which I also applaud.

Why not 5 stars, then? You can read up on how I decide my ratings on my book review policy page but, in short, I don’t necessarily have anything bad to say. 3 stars is for your baseline, average books and 5 stars are for those books that I will hold onto forever and read again and again. Therefore, this book falls somewhere in the middle – it was an enjoyable read and I certainly can’t wait for the 2nd in the series.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult and dystopian genres, as well as those that enjoy books that speak to the perhaps a more nerdy side of things (nerdy as in computers, I might note).

A special thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read through her book before its release and be apart of this book blog tour. It has been a pleasure and an honor.

So after Configured left us hanging on such an ending I was super excited to be offered an ARC of Immersed (Configured trilogy #2) and Jenetta Penner has done it again with this second instalment in this exciting YA saga, producing a world that's so easy to get engrossed and lost in.

Immersed starts off practically where we left off, the morning after being rescued.
So now in New Philly, A place the show more inhabitants of Elore have no idea of, Avlyn finds herself again a pawn in a battle, where both sides are not being entirely honest concerning there motives.
Not being able to tell her enemies from her friends Avlyn decides it's time to strike away and regroup, taking along her friends and brother for the battle ahead.
So Immersed, what did I think, well I really enjoyed it, but I didn't find it quite as captivating as the first book Configured.
I also had a few little nitpicks that pulled this down a bit for me hence the reason for dropping it half a star, (I gave Configured Four stars).
Still, this still was a really great addition to the dystopian genre and I'm looking forward to reading the conclusion to this fascinating trilogy.
So My issues with this I'm going to point them.

1) Avlyn was so worried about her friend Aron and leaving him behind in new Philly. What about her dad.she only gives fleeting thought to the man who raised her and his safety.
2)Despite expressing her feelings for Meyer, Avlyn starts sniffing around Aron talk about fickle.
3) Why did I find Avlyn so annoying this time round? because I did.
4) Not much occurs in this instalment bar training and tests, Yes there is some fighting to break it up but I would also have liked to see some more advancement in the romantic department.
5)Meyer kiss her already, show some initiative before Aron swoops in and steals your girl.

Now the above are all personal reasons for me so discounting my gripes,
(It's not the author's fault I'm finding Avyln a trifle irritating and Meyer not more forthcoming in his affections or is it? Grrrr)
So where was I, Oh Yes, this was a well thought out story with terrific, if a little scary, world building.
It was a very easy well-written clean read that I would definitely recommend to my fellow dystopian lovers.
I also should mention that this is a YA Novel, don't let that bother you, this is easily enjoyable for all ages, I'm much older and didn't have a problem at all.
Thank you to the Publisher and Author for providing me with an arc of Immersed (Configured trilogy #2) this is my own honest and unbiased opinion.

*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book*

This book pulled me in almost immediately. The world the author created is so unlike any other dystopian society that I have read about. This unique story is full of action and I just couldn't put the book down. The technology is light years ahead of ours so that added another dimension to the story that I enjoyed. I loved Meyer and Avlyn and I was rooting for them the whole book. There is so much left to be done and I can't wait show more until book 2 comes out so that I can see what happens next. show less
