I currently read her stories in the local newspaper and they have not impressed me. However the entries in this volume were frequently funny and mostly heartwarming. Mary's mother was an amazing woman who frequently taught her children ethics and morals by demonstrating how their actions had or possibly could hurt another individual.
All the stories took place in Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. Mary's father farmed along the Bonnechere River.
The stories are short and rarely more than a page show more and a half and thus would be good material for the reluctant reader. show less

had to read this one for selection committee work and didn't expect to like it as I find Mary Cook's radio piece very grating..but it was really a good read: humourous, touching, authentic; it consists of numoerous short pieces and they are are very well-written and self-contained.
