Angela Harding

A quick read of twenty or so poems commissioned by the National Trust from Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, on the theme of spring blossoms, embellished by Angela Harding's woodcut illustrations. Nothing to not like, if not exactly transporting. Will probably reward a re-read, and despite Harding's bio at the back being only 20% the length of Armitage's, it's really her contribution that lifts this from a low pick to a solid one 4🌸

I'm rating and reviewing this as someone who has bought Harding's A Year Unfolding: A Printmaker's View at some expense, and who was initially excited to see this newly published book of her wonderful prints, and so bought and brought it home to the disappointment of finding much (though not all) of the artwork and text is lifted from the book I already own.

Had I not already got her earlier book, I would love this. As it is I feel ripped off and taken for a mug.

I'll see if the book shop show more will take it back and let me swap it for something I don't already own substantial portions of. show less
