Beverly Herr

This is an excellent romance between two people of a different (Lakota) heritage. I am an ethnologist and studied Lakota history, beliefs, and cultures. Mrs. Herr got everything right (Wanka Tanka, no h). I am so proud of her, for writing her first, highly creative romance, with the Lakota People.
Emily Baker's mother tried to get away from her abusive parents. She married the now chief of the Bruele village and had a daughter. When Emily was four years old, her mother's family captured them show more and made them live deplorable lives. The mother died of a broken heart. When Emily was 16 years old, her Lakota father came to take her back to his people with the promise that after the big buffalo hunt, if she chooses, she can go back to her uncle's
cabin and leave the Lakota life.

You won't find a better book than this one. It has absolutely everything in it to peak your interest. That is what I love most about this book. That, and Emily (Little Fawn) and her two cousins get into mischievous trouble throughout the book. You will love this book as much as I do. You will. This is an excellent book by any means. show less
