I loved the prequel to this book 'The Ward's Bride' so I was eager to read this book.
Lady Sara Caiser, finds herself enslaved to her duty and her life ruled by men. Her father has died and made requests on his deathbed for her to have the protection of his friend from his youth and his nephew who are now lawless border reivers.
Sir Geoffrey, is a misplaced man who goes along with his uncle to protect the wealthy countess, Sara and he is not happy about it.
Both parties have their issues with show more the situation and both feel an attraction but each for different reasons feel they need to fight it.
There is an interesting group of friends and almost family who add extra warmth to the plot.
This book is well written. Well worth giving it a try. show less

What a wonderful idea!I have seen it done before but was not expecting it. A trilogy written by three different Historical Romance authors. I read the first book not knowing this so when I went to buy these conditions book, I discovered it was written by Cecelia Mecca.
Three sisters were on vacation in Scotland when they jumped off enchanted Falls They surfaced in a different body of water. Caroline surfaced in a loch in Scotland in the year 1394. She was featured in the first book. Hannah, show more the oldest sister, woke up on a beach in England at Saxford Castle.
When Hannah realized she had gone back in time, she was frantic. She didn't know if her sisters had surfaced at Leannan Falls in Scotland in the future or if they had shared her fate. She just knew she had to return to the falls to try to get back to the future.
Tristan is the order of Saxford Castle. He thinks Hannah is beautiful but confused. He's willing to help her out but Leannan Falls is right near his enemy's lands.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked that Hannah was a modern woman who did not like the way men treated women in medieval times and the some of the hardships back then.
I hope the last book is written as well. show less

I'm not sure why this book couldn't keep my interest. The book was written well but something kept me lackadaisical. Maybe I have just been reading too many historical romances lately or maybe it was the that the characters were way too typical.
Sara is a countess who just lost her father to an illness. Being a woman in those times, she could not hold her lands by herself so her father had betrothed her to an older but good nobleman who was on his way to marry her. The immediate threat is a show more distant cousin who wants to claim her lands is on his way to either attack her castle or by other nefarious methods. Her father knew this so he had sent a message to his old friend and his nephew to come and protect his daughter.
Sara was everything you would expect from a female protagonist in a historical romance. She was beautiful, kind, hardworking and caring. Her father had indulged her so she did things that most women of the time wouldn't have dated like wearing pants and shooting a bow and arrow. She was just too perfect for me.
Geoffrey had lost his land and title when a Scottish clan took it over and killed his parents. Ever since, he and his uncle have lived as reivers to survive and they have gathered allies to take his land back. When his uncle received a message to go help out an old friend's daughter, Geoffrey is annoyed because it takes precious time away from his revenge plans but he goes anyway because he's a good nephew.
Geoffrey is the standard alpha male character who is good looking and can wield a sword better than all the other men. He isn't looking for love but is peculiarly attracted to Sara who he knows he can't have.
Don't get me wrong, this book was good. I am just becoming a historical romance snob. Perhaps I will enjoy the second book more. show less

The Lord's Captive: Border Series Book 2 (Volume 2) by Cecelia Mecca is another interesting and compelling Medieval Romance. I feel it can easily be read as a stand alone.
This is the story of Sir Bryce Waryn and Lady Catrina Kerr. Bryce is not the eldest brother, Geoffrey is, but Geoffrey gives the lands to Bryce. Geoffrey has married and is lord of his new wife's lands. So Bryce is now the Lord of Bristol Manor. Immediately after the battle to regain what was took from them, two men happen show more to find an injured Catrina, she apparently survived the fierce battle that occurred at Bristol Manor, a few hours prior to being found. She has no memory of who she is nor why she was left in the ditch, so the men brought her back to the Manor. Against Bryce's better judgment he let's her stay to gain her strength, heal from her injuries and hopefully regain her memory. Immediately, Bryce and Catrina have a connection, which either understands nor care to act upon, at first. But the heart can be a fickle thing. Then when Bryce learns Catrina is his enemy's daughter, he decides to hold her as his hostage. Catrina is a strong-willed lass who knows how to fight, afterall, she has brothers. She's determined to escape, to save Bryce and his newly formed clan from more devastration. But Bryce is determined to keep Catrina, for his own. So another struggle ensures at Bristol Manor, this one between Bryce and Catrina. Will Catrina and Bryce find their HEA? Or will they give up all to protect and save those they love?
Steady paced, tale with engaging, well thought out characters and an interesting storyline. I found the plot to be intriguing as well as exciting. Ms. Mecca gives her readers a story of danger, romance, passion, betrayal, a bit of humor, a bit of suspense, and the power of love against all odds. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Lord's Captive" and watching Bryce and Catrina fight their feelings, the inner turmoil that is against their true feelings and the safety of their clan, is truly overwhelming. There are a few laugh out moments. Like when Catrina blackens Bryce's eye.
I would strongly recommend reading "The Lord's Captive", of you enjoy Medieval Romance, the struggle to find a HEA, and fight to keep what another clan craves. I can hardly wait to read more of Cecelia Mecca and her stories. She is definitely an author to watch for in the future. A heartwarming story. Another must read Medieval Romance!
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
