Spence was born on a farm in Kenya.
When

After
graduation he spent two years’ national service in the army,
worked in a London shipping office, served four years with the Kenya Police,

seven years as a representative and branch manager of a finance company,
when finally, at age 36, he was invited by Francis Edmunds to join the small
