Really torn on how to rate this. The story was interesting, if not particularly well-written. It was written in vernacular, which was annoying. However, after a while, I became absorbed enough in the tale that I didn’t notice so much. There isn’t much plot, but memoirs and memoir-styled stories don’t always include a clear plot. Again, becoming involved in the tale made it easier to accept the plotlessness.
Lighter on description than similar books, it makes up with plenty of show more good-triumphs-over-evil action and intriguing characters. There are several other follow-up books in the series. I will likely pick up at least the next one or two to test the magic of this first novel. I hope to be pleasantly surprised. show less
