Alexis is just finishing up convalescent leave from her job at the FBI when she’s asked to go undercover at a research lab.
I always forget that, in America, even a cosy mystery will mean every single person has at least one gun on them at all times. It’s somewhat disconcerting.
There is romance, but it doesn’t get in the way of either the plot or the character development.
This book is very well edited and it shows a good range of characters. The shifts in perspective are clearly show more delineated. My only (very minor complaint) is that the plot itself could be a bit stronger.

A fast paced thriller, threat of espionage, brilliant, brave, plucky college professor meets CIA and helps...well I can't give away the whole plot, can I? Lee shows some serious promise. I am also pleased that there was no casual sex here. Smouldering looks and passionate beginnings to a hopeful relationship, yes! I fully expect that the other books in her series will be just as enjoyable as was this one.
Something sinister is happening in Riverbend leading to not only Finn but also Elise coming to town for different reasons and the fact they not only have mutual friends but also there is an instant attraction between them that neither act on to begin with. We get not only a great mystery that slowly unfolds with plenty of twists as well a red herring or two to make it harder to work out that bad guy but also a great slow burn and characters (human and animal) that make you laugh, want to show more move to Riverbend and fall a little in love with all of them.
I look forward to the next in the series and I'm also going to read the first book which I hadn't yet read as I need to know how Liam and Zoey got together!.

I loved being back in Riverbend and seeing everyone again from Dr V, Kai and Elise etc and not only do we have a vast array of animals including Roberta the bobcat and a new puppy, but also uncovering more things RACC was lied to about by the last director.
It's like seeing old friends again you have women who are smart and independent surrounded by genuine friends and co workers as well as a good mystery that needs solving with a sprinkle of danger so you can't go wrong!.
