This book by Townsend Press appeals to high-interest low readability readers. I got it for my ESL classroom because I know that the students can handle the text and also because I have had students who have dealt with abuse – either themselves or a family member. The book is split into four true stories that touch on various aspects of abuse. Though not the most intensely written book, it is straightforward and no-nonsense with a good message. If I had a student that chose this book to show more read, I would be more careful of keeping track of his or her progress and reading his or her responses because there might be a personal reason for picking up the book. As an experienced reader, I buzzed through the 135 pages in a half hour. I believe it has a place in the library for those who can’t do that. show less
#4 in 365 Kids Books challenge and bid to get back on the Top 100 Readers list for full explanation see my review for [b:101 Amazing Facts about Australia|21332402|101 Amazing Facts about Australia (Countries of the World)|Jack Goldstein|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1394253825l/21332402._SY75_.jpg|25417728]

Early readers are hard, with very narrow parameters. Some of the ones the kids brought home were horrible. This has a good format and a bit of a show more punchline, which is nice.

I really enjoyed this book. I have read a few different books of this type recently and this one has been the most inspirational. All of these stories are about real people who turned their life around and came out of bad situations.
It’s Career Day in Mrs. Hall’s class, and several adults visit the classroom to talk about their jobs. The King School Kids are left with all kinds of exciting career possibilities dancing in their heads as they lie awake in their beds that night.
