The novel, First Semester, encompasses a young male who makes strides to leave his criminal neighborhood and embarks on a journey to Clark Atlanta University. In the beginning, James Dawson, J.D, the protagonist struggles with staying in college because he is on accadimic probation, and he does not have a strong entrist in studying for his classes. Throughout the middl, he perseveres throught staying focused because the girls at Clark University are " smokin dime pieces" and he meets show more Katrina. J.D and Katrina hit it off but she shares some intresting news about herself and her health. By the end J.D learns that college is important and he buckles down and focusses on his schooling.
