When a young witch inherits a troublesome table, she's already learned by observing how to avoid its tricks...but then her empathy kicks in, and she begins to see the table as a member of the household. She gets a rug so its feet aren't on a cold floor, makes it a tablecloth, and buys it a lamp (also with feet) for company. The moral? It's less important to see eye to eye than "toe to toe." Clever, cute, and Halloween-adjacent. See also: Hoodwinked by Arthur Howard.
This book is a reverse of things that go bump in the night. This time you have a creature of the night trying to go to bed who hears things, and his mom has to explain what they are. This is a nice change of pace. This book is handled beautifully by the illustrations that are both at once creepy, but heartfelt that kids will love. It’s like Halloween every day and I am here for it.
