Emily Snape

A young boy named Dash gets a pet T-rex but quickly learns that a dinosaur with few boundaries will wreak havoc. His mother suggests they do slower-paced activities together, which helps them both mellow out -- and Dash notices an underlying pain that might have been the cause of his dinosaur's issues from the start.

This is a nice enough book about taking things a little easier, which is frankly a lesson we all need sometimes. I wish this message had actually been a little meatier -- perhaps show more their previous activities should have been presented as a little more competitive or some other trait that can be bad in excess, rather than just exuberance. But it was great to see mindfulness depicted (even if not explicitly stated) so that the pair begin to notice marvelous things that were right in front of their eyes but previously unseen.

The illustrations are cute, colorful, and fit the overall tone of the book well. show less
