When Logan Booth learns that his decade long career as a vigilante assassin has been in service to the CIA he spirals into a pit of self-loathing. He thought he had been making a difference, now he wonders if he did any good at all. Logan is on the brink of ending it all when his college roommate and only friend Jorge Romero, an investigative reporter on the trail of a political corruption scandal, is brutally murdered. Filled with righteous fury Logan decides his last act will be to make show more whoever was involved pay.
I really enjoyed this action-packed and fast paced thriller from Matt Roger that sees Logan utilise his unique skills to avenge the death of his friend, and protect Alice, a young drug addict caught up in the chaos.
Logan is a deeply flawed character, as any contract killer must be no matter his motives, he is broken yet disciplined and somehow likeable. His skills are certainly impressive, he cuts down his enemies as easily as any action hero, shrugging off the damage to his body, determinedly making his way through the gauntlet of bad guys thrown at him.
Alice is also flawed but surprisingly self aware and perceptive for a homeless drug addict. Roger has given her a sense of vulnerability and as she battles her demons, you can’t help but root for her. The connection she forms with Logan is born of desperation, but changes into something more equal as the story progresses, despite their differences.
The violence can be quite graphic but Roger’s descriptions are generally cinematic and it’s easy to visualise this being played out on screen.
The Forsaken is to be the first in a series featuring Logan Booth and I look forward to
Roger’s next thrilling instalment. show less

What a pleasant surprise - Isolated and the protagonist, Jason King - a force to be reckoned with. If you enjoy Jack Reacher, Jack Noble, Michael Bennett, John Cory and Jesse McDermitt novels, then don't miss this series. They are all shrewd, well-trained, and get the job done.
Jason King has recently retired and relocated to Australia...far from his past...far from people who know him...looking to relax and kick back...enjoying life! However, he never gets a chance. From the very first page show more when he observes a "hit" on two construction workers from a nearby worksite until the very end of the book...neither reader or Jason King will have a moment to relax! Matt Rogers makes sure of that!
As a former Black Ops operator, Jason King is considered to be the best in the trade. Now that he is no longer in the agency, a caper unfolds in a place that he never expected. When he sees somebody wronged, Jason will step in to help and make things right again. The author continues to make readers guess on the outcome, continuing to change things up until the final scenes. My only regret is that the postal carrier isn't compensated for his vehicle.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in the series and feel like the author could be ranked with those mentioned in the opening sentence. I am going to download the second book when I finish writing this. Hail a new hero! Great job Mr. Rogers!

First, let me point out that I received a free copy of this work for my inclusion to the author's email list.
Matt Rogers has done it again! "Reloaded" is an action-packed, edge of your seat, story about Jason King's retirement from the special operations group. Unfortunately, his past exploits allowed him to be recognized and his former foe has revenge in mind. When bodies begin showing up on the island of Corsica, the special operations group orders a hit on Jason - targeting him as a rogue show more agent for walking away from the agency several months earlier.
Jason has met his equal in the dispatched hitman and then after taking turns of beating each other senseless, they temporarily join forces to stop a corrupt official on the island. Although, not all is as it appears and the activity that is bound to make the official millions poses a personal dilemma to each Black Op soldier. Retirement is not all its cut out to be for Jason King.
Now that Jason is leaving a trail of bodies, It's necessary for him to leave his multi-million dollar mansion in the hills and the local bar he owns in town - both have kept him grounded in Corsica. However, he'd already tasted what it's like to be in prison on his last mission, and all the evidence left with the dead bodies all point to him - and there's no way he's going back to prison - nobody will believe that it was self-defense. There is a hint that his next mission may take him to Sweden. I guess we'll see!
Only one concern that I have about the story and that is when Jason meets the hitman from Black Ops. There seemed to be a lot of redundancy
about the man's qualifications and comparisons to himself. Phrases and descriptions seemed to pop up in every scene for a while - seemingly, overly excessive. However, that's just me. Overall, great job Mr.Rogers! Keep them coming!

What an amazing thriller this is! This story starts out with Jason King seeing two men shot in their car. The assassins spot him and attempt to kill him. He kills them instead. Being an ex black ops operative in the U.S. he can handle just about any situation quickly and quietly. As he gets to know the people in the small town of Jameson, Australia he realizes the assassinations he saw are just a small part of what's going on in this little town. Is it a coincidence that so many people are show more dying in the town that he's passing through or is it because of him?
This is a fast moving story full of action. It's the kind of book that keeps you thinking about what is going on and why. Jason King had been extremely well trained when he was in the military so he never has a problem dispensing of any bad guy quickly. I did think it was a bit extreme that Jason took out 10 men but it was quite believable in this story. Even with all the killing Jason did, I liked him a lot because he always jumped in when he saw something wrong then would find out why this happened and who ordered it in the first place.
I'm glad I was offered a copy of this book from the author because I like Jason King and will definitely be reading the rest of this series. Please note that I am reviewing this book on my own as I do with everything I read. Not because I was asked to. show less
