Matty Matheson

Toronto chef and restauranteur Matty Matheson is parlaying his part in the award-winning FX show The Bear into a cookbook. No shade for Matheson, as I liked Home Style Cookery. The title should tell readers whether the cookbook is for them. If you’re looking for haute cuisine or if that Canadian staple cheese curds give you pause, this book isn’t for you, not even at the $2.99 I paid.

Matheson includes many broth recipes, which rarely appear in cookbooks, Beef Tourtière and even a Nova show more Scotia dessert! My only gripe is that there’s no recipe for poutine or Nanaimo bars, but you can’t have everything! O Canada, I love you and your native son Matty Matheson! As far as cookbooks go, this is as fun as they get.

Great back-story, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Three desserts, but understandable. Matty did say he hated baking.
