A Golden Voice: How Faith, Hard Work, and Humility Brought Me from the Streets to Salvation by Ted Williams
It was tough to get through since Williams spends most of the book chronicling his addiction along with his girlfriend Kathy. Their lives were pure misery. By spending so much time on their addictions, they give the negative impression that surviving is always possible. I can tell you from professional experience, it is not guaranteed that anyone with a drug habit can live for any extended period of time. Certain kinds of addictions are actually predicable, in the sense of immanent show more mortality. I'd seen people living on the street with William's issues living for maybe 6 months. It was not a pretty 6 months either. This book showed me again that anyone can have a great book written about their life. Williams wasn't a great natural speaking talent but he claims he found faith in God that helped him slowly move away from embarrassing his mother any longer. He says that many people tried to help him but he wasn't ready to change his behavior as of yet. He had a friend who was a karate sensei who set him on the right path which Williams eventually followed. This book is not for kids, and I wouldn't even recommend it to adults, as the human degradation he describes often cold and heartless. When people talk to me they are frank. There are some people who not merely describe, but dwell on their depravity. Those people seem to want to make their dissolute lifestyle seem provocative. Great work by the co-author, but this Witter could make anybody's life seem to have depth. Hard luck stories aren't for everyone, and this one had me plowing through stuff I didn't want to read about. I learned a few new things about my own feelings over people not yet ready to deal with their substance addictions. show less
