Black, White, and The Grey by Mashama Bailey and John O. Morisano tries a little too hard to be too many things: a memoir, the story of starting a restaurant, and social commentary about race relations. The two authors co-own a restaurant together — The Grey in Savannah, Georgia — and the parts of the book that focus on their relationship and working together to create The Grey were the most successful for me. When the authors tried to delve into race relations beyond their personal show more relationship (Bailey is Black and Morisano White) the book veers into preachy territory. Still, for readers interested in food and the restaurant industry, Black, White, and The Grey is an interesting book with a recipe at the end of every chapter. show less
