A slim but beautifully illustrated accompaniment to a special exhibition at the Met Cloisters. The Colmar Treasure is a small cache of items—mostly jewellery and coins—which were found hidden in the wall of a shop in the small French city of Colmar in the mid-19th century. The items are thought to have been deposited there for safekeeping by a Jewish family who fell victim either to the Black Death or the subsequent scapegoating pogroms directed against Jews. A poignant and fascinating show more collection. show less
A beautiful catalogue of an exhibition that I wish I had seen. The essays are all excellent and informative. The descriptions and illustrations of the artifacts are well done.
