"He said, 'You've got enough books.' Privately, I felt that not even Southaven Central Library had enough books. Or rather, it had plenty, but invariably the wrong ones. Some of my own collection had found their way onto shelves, but far more festered in boxes or were piled precariously in odd corners of the room. The window-seat too was stacked high with books and magazines. I had a plan to organize them by subject some day but it's no good rushing into these things."

Satisfying murder show more mystery set in a town very much like Southport in the 1970s. Similarly bleak tone to Adrian McKinty (but without the IRA). Sam has been chucked out of his police job after he was outed. Now he works as a PI, when he can find work. An upset husband asks him to help with a wife he thinks is cheating, but as is the way with every PI novel I have ever read, this turns out to have very little to do with the eventual case. Sam must investigate whilst navigating dodgy councillors, loan sharks, property deals and Masonic links. The cover promises a series, I'd read another. show less
