Ms. Martin's characters are likable, however, I think the story line needed more depth and a lot more events to build up to the climax. It was just too short for me as I was able to start and finish it in an hour! I'm sure that the sequel will be short and somewhat satisfying in its own way, but I really feel that I would have enjoyed it better if the two (or three?) books were combined as one regular-length novel.
Sarah has left her home as her father had married the schoolmarm back in her hometown. She didn't want Sarah around and she need to find a new place to start over. Finding her self in Oklahoma to claim some land. As she was searching for a plot she ran into 3 gentlemen. It was a man and his two sons as they were building a restaurant and Sarah asked about a job once it was open. Toni introduce himself and and found out she was looking for a plot of land.
Sarah was leaving when Toni hollered show more at her to stop and explained he would share his plot as it was too much for him. Sarah was excited. Now she could start her new life.
The characters are well developed and Toni and Sarah work well together. The part of the book I liked best was the setting descriptions. You could picture yourself out on the land helping Sarah with her garden or working in on her house. A great quick read and looking forward to book 2 and 3 of the Hearts of Dust Series. show less
