I'm continually impressed with this series -- the books are so short, and you'd think would be pretty repetitive (there are a LOT of clubs), but somehow Nuurali manages to tell a completely different story every time, and they all have great messages. This one is about Sadiq's Dugsi classroom planning a fundraiser for Ramadan. Dives into friendship dynamics when Zaza withdraws from the group and Sadiq realizes that he hasn't been listening carefully to his friend's ideas.

This one is about Sadiq's video game club finding a way to connect with seniors at the assisted living facility his Hooyo volunteers at. While I have to wonder about seniors using tablets (can you tell I have a super technology resistant show more parent?), the idea is solid and based on community, and that's a message I want to see. show less
This series still works for me -- Sadiq wants to learn an instrument., borrows Hooyo's drum without permission, and makes a new deaf friend. It's charming and the characters are great.
I'm continually impressed with this series -- the books are so short, and you'd think would be pretty repetitive (there are a LOT of clubs), but somehow Nuurali manages to tell a completely different story every time, and they all have great messages. This one is about Sadiq deciding which role he wants to compete in for the class elections. I found it a little less strong than some of the others, because when conflict ensues (Manny also wants to run for president), it's resolved by Sadiq's show more friend deciding that Sadiq would do a better job in the role. While it's a perfectly plausible scenario, it would be nice to see a chapter book main character decide to step back or suffer defeat instead -- thus speaks the children's librarian who's read way too many of these kinds of books. show less
