This book charts the history of a young German Jewish émigré, David Gottlieb, who launched the twin publishing imprints of John Westhouse and Peter Lunn. The venture was an ambitious but short-lived one in which, between 1943 and 1948, he published some 70 John Westhouse books for adults and 120 Peter Lunn books for children. This book is a companion volume to Peter Lunn: children's publisher, and contains a series of essays which provide an integrated overview of the production, design show more and illustration of books from both imprints. This well-researched and profusely illustrated bibliography is a comprehensive account of the output of a small and short-lived publisher founded by David Gottlieb at the end of the Second World War. His books were illustrated by artists who, in many instances, went on to become well known and respected in their profession. The author provides detailed descriptions of the books, reproductions of most of the dustwrappers, and an indication of the relative rarity of the individual titles.
