I found this book very interesting as the reader follows a Dutch shepherd puppy as she goes through her emergency response training for the first two years of her life. With the help of her trainer, Kristian (Cat) Labrada, Halo has to face many challenges before she can be accepted into the program. Cat was an experienced trained who had successfully taken three labradors through the training before finding Halo.

Halo's love of balls and squeaky toys, that were used as rewards when she did show more something right, made me smile. I also thought the extra information about how to become a disaster rescue volunteer, the requirements dogs had to meet to successfully pass the training and the disasters Cat had been involved in with her dogs were a nice touch.
