I picked this up because I enjoyed Restaurant to Another World's 2017 anime adaptation. Despite that, I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed the book as there's not much of an actual story in it. It's set in the Western Cuisine Nakoya, a small restaurant in Japan, and on every Saturday, for reasons that aren't really explained, its door becomes a magical portal to various places in a fantasy world. The book consists of a series of stories wherein denizens of the fantasy world visit the show more restaurant (some being regulars and some first-timers who stumble across an entrance) and eat the food, which they then gush over. I'm not a foodie, and I normally prefer stories with a bit more plot, but I found this book delightful. show less
I get that it's this series' shtick, but I find myself skipping the "wow, this food is so tasty" bits. It's not like I'm missing out on much by doing so, as it's very repetitive. If it weren't for the excellent story telling I would have quit long ago.
