Reviews
In addition to landscapes and seascapes, this collection also includes selections from his nocturnes, which are probably better-known and loved than either of the other categories. The introductory essay is very good, concentrating on why Victorian audiences saw Whistler's work as revolutionary whilst it is so difficult for us to see it as such. The plates are well-reproduced and of sufficient size, and the captions are illuminating. This book is well-produced and selected.
