I liked this one a surprising amount. I think this is just different enough from other stories that it impressed me. I really thought the pacing of the relationship was really good. There was time for the relationship to develop and that's not always the case with this type of story.
I liked our two main characters. They didn't have the best characterization I've ever read and they definitely fell into some tropes but I really didn't mind that. I feel like with some of these stories, the show more human character accepts the existence of non-human creatures a little too quickly and I think that happened with Matthew a little bit, considering he was supposed to be the skeptic, but he did still want some proof which I appreciated.
The world building in this was pretty good, though some things still need to be fleshed out more. I felt like I got a sense of the structure of dragon society without too much info dumping. The author did a good job working the lore into the actual plot.
I think I will be continuing on with this series. I hope the later books in this series will continue to impress me and I hope the relationships in those books continue to be just as strong as they were in this one. show less

Fairly OK Read
3.5 stars
While typical for the genre, I enjoyed the story. The characters are well rounded and realistic, the plot is interesting. The bit at the beginning is a little jarring, but things smooth out quickly.
