What a disappointment. I thought Dorothy Dale would be much more fun and adventurous. Instead it's boring and tedious, with Dorothy constantly trying to reform people. I think it must have been the first job for the ghost writer hired to write this book. She contradicts herself, leaves out information and of course, there's the boringness.
I didn't like the characters that much, and I honestly thought the plot was dull and a little strange. However I persisted because the narrator read slowly and steadily and reliably put me to sleep.
I found this series at a local bookstore; the owner had bought them at an estate sale. These books are absolutely delightful. They are old-fashioned without being lame, corny, or preachy. I found myself wanting to live down the road from the characters and join them in their drives, picnics, and parties. If you come across these books, snatch them up!
I listened to this through Librivox - the narrator was not great, so I'm tempted to actually read the book. I think it would have been a more fun story than it seemed, if the narration had been more lively. As with many books of this time period and featuring young girls as the main characters - good manners, high morals, and just a bit of liveliness are the key ingredients here.
