This oral history of the Rough Trade Shop, Record Label and Distribution company is a fascinating account of the heyday and collapse of the most influential indie company of them all. It also stands as an example of the problems of running a succesful business according to alternative principles. It assumes a knowledge of the music it talks about - if you don't know who The Raincoats were, or who Daniel Miller is, this book isn't going to tell you and you might want to give it a miss. If you show more like your music groundbreaking and your politics revolutionary, and your not afraid to wade through the contradictions and the disappointments, then this is a great read. show less
