I'm going to start off with this, I would have called this 4 stars overall, or 5 for a small author, but for the ending, or rather, lack thereof.

There are too many questions or plot points that are raised and never come to fruition. Too many things seem extraneous, and only briefly come in to try to matter on the tail end of the story. If the author had fifty or a hundred more pages there may have been room to flesh more things out, or bring in some kind of real payoff. Instead, the story show more feels rushed, and I was left looking for answers without any promise that they would ever come.

That being said, it's a fun read. The faster pace that I call being rushed really can also be seen as excitement that draws the reader on. I did constantly want to know what was going to happen next. There are definitely layers of story going on, and mysteries that you want to solve. This is supposed to be the first book of a series, and I hope the next one comes out soon, because the end of the book brings up more new questions than the book answers during its entire run.
