Short biography
Sigrid Boo, née Holmesland, was born in Oslo and raised in Larvik, Norway. Her father Peter Holmesland was a lawyer and member of the Storting (Norwegian Parliament).

In 1925, she married Gustaf Waldemar Boo, the Swedish-born director of Norsk film A/S. She was the author of popular books that dealt with such themes as love, domestic service, and tuberculosis. She was one of the best-selling Norwegian authors in the first half of the 20th century, next to Sigrid Undset. Her most famous work, Vi som går kjøkkenveien (We Who Enter Through the Kitchen), was published in 1930. It was adapted into a 1932 Swedish film called Servant's Entrance. A second film version of Servant's Entrance, made as a musical comedy with a cartoon sequence by Walt Disney, was released in the USA in 1934. A third version of the film was made by Danish director Erik Balling in 1953. The novel was also dramatized by Gösta Stevens and staged in 1931 at the National Theatre and the following year at the New Theater in Oslo. Several of her other nine novels were translated into as many as 13 different languages. Sigrid Boo died at age 56 in 1953.
