A beautiful and restrained study of grief through the seasons of year. Lin never wallows in her grief and her frequent use of nature references, evoking the seasonal changes which both match and contrast to her grief, is particularly deft. Her use of language is particularly impressive as she never sinks to hyperbolic excess and manages to express pain, loss and mourning without florid or exaggerated language. This book is a beautiful set of poems that marks the passage of time through the journey of grief after the death of the author's friend. The author notes her observations, feelings, thoughts on what appear to be routine walks along a path she had visited many times with a friend. It was a comforting read as I have recently felt the loss of a loved one.
