Not what I was expecting. This book belongs to a certain tarot deck. It goes into the psychology of THAT deck, not the Tarot in general.
The subtitle on the title page, but not on the cover, is "Construction of a Personal Temple and Magical instruments in the Western Esoteric Tradition." In a genre other than magic I might call this a how-to book, but it doesn't tell you how to do magic, or much about magic at all. What it does do is give instructions for building the altar, tools and decorations associated with working the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn system of magic. If I were handy (I am not), or were interested in show more having a HOGD temple in my home, I would find the instructions very useful. The book includes color plates of each item, too. show less
Well, now. This is my go to deck for doing Tarot readings. Regardie wasn't trying to do anything but make a useful deck for divination purposes. I recommend the 'infinity' (or 15 card) layout (on page 156 in the book by Robert Wang which accompanies this deck). When I do a reading I make sure that no cards come out 'upside down,' and I always start from a deck that is arranged in the correct order, and I never charge. Even with these strictures, it is amazing the different readings that lay show more themselves out. (Counter clockwise because the layout mirrors what is. You face what is. Destiny is reflected by the cards). show less
