I really liked this book. It's hilariously funny, well written and has a "lesson" about how we deal with our fellow human beings that is so well hidden, you swallow it almost before you notice what is going on.
Brandon is a very selfish, arrogant veterinarian who is after nothing other than his own pleasure. He never even considers what his partners think or feel when he fucks them and leaves them. He lies his way into their beds, telling them whatever he thinks they want to hear, and show more vanishes before they know what hit them. However, that changes when he meets Enigma (who tells him to his face how unattractive he is). This floors Brandon, especially since he is inexplicably attracted to the other guy.
Brandon doesn't know it yet, but this meeting is the turning point in his slutty life. The twist that makes this happen is surprising, ingenious and made me sad at the same time. Brandon's journey from here on out is truly amazing. Brilliantly well done! show less

Good, short, deep-reaching read. It explains Alex and Ric's history, begins to paint them as 3-dimensional characters, and sets up the story for a sequel that I am excited to read (all in under one day--except for the last little bit). Alex's snarky dialogue with and reactions to and Ric are sometimes funny and sometimes sad, but are also realistic.
I immediately felt for Alex, as he was trying to be brave and show how different he is now from high school, but he still has a lot of untreated show more trauma from Ric's bullying, so that causes a lot of involuntary (and embarrassing and fearful) moments for him. Plus, this day is just not made for Alex, misfortune smiles upon him left and right. But Alex and Ric do connect, and Ric reveals his own host of issues that will need to be faced. My favorite things are how the characters are changed from youth and the cover that you get off of the download from Priest's website (beautiful men!). Overall, I this story has a lot of potential for its continuation, and I definitely recommend it. show less

Well. I loved this book. Alec is almost, almost over the top, but he's just so bubbly it's infectious. This book made me laugh out loud, choke up and cry, and even made me literally gasp (a first for any book) out loud when one piece of information is revealed. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and the story.
Zathyn Priest's books get me every time, whatever he chooses to focus on.
This story addresses the serious issue of mental illness and how it is underfunded, overlooked and often trivialised by the ignorant. With tears in my eyes as I read this lovely story, I was obviously moved by both the MC and his secondary character. Whilst I would still classify this as romance, it is actually more a 'romantic' story. Most of the focus is on the development of one person with significant help from a show more very major secondary character.
It isn't long, and I would encourage ppl to give it a go, simply for the additional perspective you may have when you next meet a schizophrenic person. show less
