"Period.: A Girl's Guide" is a book that focuses on, that's right, periods! Although the book seems to market itself specifically to young women, it's written in such a way that anyone, woman or man, can get the low-down on menstruation in case they missed the class.

I found "Period" to be done very tastefully. The text is easy to read and understand, the illustrations are sensitive and include many different cultures and types of women. Overall, the information was presented in a way that show more encourages discussion, especially between parents and children. The part I found most helpful was the portion describing the many different ways that women feel during their period, such as upset, calm, reclusive, outgoing, etc.

"Period" does a great job of introducing a sensitive topic and allows parents & daughters to create a healthy dialogue with one another.

Mundane, involved, soul-searching treatises on Lesbianism. The human voices really came through, the pain, angst, jubilation of liberation.... It was real.

I'm not sure what I was looking for, but I'll tell you this wasn't it.
These essays focus on crucial issues in modern lesbian life. With wit and humor, Loulan discusses self-esteem, couples, longterm recovery, celibacy, and other important issues.
This is a good book for parents who want to focus on the basics of menstruation without incorporating other aspects of sex and puberty. Respectful and detailed regarding practical tips and tricks.
