These are not your little kid sisters paperdolls. Tom Tierney does a wonderful historical and exacting reproductions of some of the most famous costumes worn by Joan Crawford in her movies. Although printed so that they can be cut out and used, that is, the pages are all printed 1-sided and of extremely sturdy stock, I cannot bring myself ot cut up the books.. any of them. Each costume is notated with the source movie, studio, year and designer. Some of these I've never seen in color before. show more They are a great inspiration when creating your own clothes or pieces for a stage production . . . or just to reminis show less
Absolutely! I must have a McCall or Simplicity pattern for almost all of these clothes. And who! who??? would ever think of buying these books to cut out for paper dolls! Are there such people? The clothes are perfect and serve as a reference for me- identifying old photos- although I think the 50s style is pretty much obvious. Love the Davy Crocket hat, but can't connect with Grandpa Patrick's hat.
This book is great for children to color, but I use it as one of my costuming resources. Plates make great resources for putting garments together, especially since much of the medieval clothing is rectangles, and since there are layers. This book simply shows you how the outfits go together. It also shows you some of the color combinations that might appeal to a medieval eye, as opposed to a modern one. All in all, it is a great beginners resource to get an idea what was going on in show more different places and time periods, so you know what you like. show less
A delightful book of paper dolls in American period costume from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. Dolls and clothing represent a variety of genders and ages with presentations from working, servant and upper classes. The descriptions make this book an especially interesting and worthy addition to the historical section of any library. The author provides historical information on the each doll and mode of dress at the of the doll section. The book is too lovely to be a plaything. The show more drawings are colorful and descriptions informative. The low price makes the purchase of two economical and advisable. show less
