I pre-ordered this badboy and was lucky enough to have my obituary written in it.
I loved all 4 stories. Beauregard, Volpe & Triana never disappoint and adding Edward Lee just made it that much better. Ive only ever gagged reading one other story (Cravings - DE McCluskey) but Lee really did a number on me with this one. If you love to be disgusted and entertained at the same time, read this book.

A pitiful man is sh*t on, in the worst ways imaginable by his wife, criminals, the bank, police, etc. He delivers extreme revenge. You love to see it.
Insanely gory. Easily the grossest book I've ever read. (Until the next Aron B book I read, probably)
"The one thing they didn’t count on was an over the edge convenience store clerk that had nothing left to live for."

The second book in the Morbid Curiosities series feels like it could be a movie.
Heather is tired, broke and just wanting a different life. She has a stalker, her apartment burned down and she ends up in a basement with limited options. This book gave me Bedazzled vibes (devil offers a new life with a few wishes but each life is not what the wisher expects).
When things escalate, she sees it to the end but this story is told by the shop keeper who is also in the first book, who sells the show more picture frame with that mysterious stock photo.
Mia, the new customer to enter the shop, gets full detail of what had happened to the previous owner of the machine but is also offered an olive branch to help straighten out her child who has been a handful himself. Book 3 continues this story.
I absolutely loved this book. If you could go back and change things, would you? Do you know if things would be better or worse? I guess the saying "I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger." doesnt always apply to living a different life. show less

This story was so much more than I expected. In the Hands of the Heathens by Aron Beauregard has an incredible tale of humanity and human failing within the brutal, compelling story. In fact, it drives it. There is definitive cause and effect within the plot. But don’t get me wrong, this book is all Aron Beauregard: tense, horrifying, bloody, and fast-paced. It’s a riveting tale with realistic, relatable characters and a fantastic folklore base.
As always, I feel I must take a moment to show more mention that this is Splatterpunk. It has some very disturbing content and graphic details of said disturbing content along with the brutal and impactful sociological mirroring. It is a socially important and entertaining story told with no punches pulled, just as it should be, but it is not for those with delicate constitutions or those who prefer more generalized horror stories.
I read this in two sittings because I ran out of opportunity during the first sitting. It was a disappointing but unavoidable situation. I would have preferred to read it cover to cover all at once; it’s hard to put down. I love this book. I love the cover. I love the backstory of the critters. I love the folklore. I love the characterization. This may be my favorite of Aron’s works yet. show less
