Jaz takes the paths of least resistance when planning for her future and in her relationship with Paul (which verges on emotionally abusive). Her lack of confidence in her own strengths inspires her loving and boisterous extended family to set up a "Bachelorette" style contest to set her up with a better boyfriend. Jaz has no idea she is being "played" by her own family, nor that her dates know they are part of the contest. This lively rom-com has a unique premise that will appeal to teens show more who've grown up on reality shows. The large cast of characters can at times feel faceless and make for a chaotic reading experience. But the lighthearted tone and Jaz's personal evolution keep the book grounded. show less

Jasmine Yap is getting ready for graduation and planning a move to a new apartment with her boyfriend, Paul. But her friends and family dislike Paul and feel Jasmine can do better. So, when Paul suggests they take some time apart over the summer the family hatches a plan to introduce Jasmine to boys who are more worthy of her and to help her find a sense of self worth.

This was a cute rom-com with the family engineering a sort of Bachelorette competition for Jasmine’s affections. They show more identify three likely candidates and watch carefully to see which one she will pick. But …

Of course, the road to HEA is never without obstacles. But Ireland gives us reasonable (and interesting) responses from Jasmine, the “bachelors” and her family.

I really did like the dates Jasmine went on with these young men - beach picnics, batting practice, go-kart racing, movies, hanging out with friends, etc. And I also liked that Ireland gave several characters the moral fortitude to say, “Wait a minute … this isn’t right.” Finally, I liked that Ireland showed real growth in Jasmine’s character.

This was joyous and just the right amount of cheesy and I absolutely loved how Jasmine evolved and grew. Fantastic character development! Her family was hilarious and had me giggling to myself and I loved how each of the subplots (and subromances!) resolved in a fulfilling and satisfactory way.
teen rom-com (Korean teen is set up on dates by her meddling adoptive Filipino/Italian family)

Ok, this was super adorable and I devoured it in one day. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for something light and sweet and perfect.
