Helpful for students of French who are not familiar with grammatical terminology. During my decades of French teaching this was a standard recommended book for first- and second-year students. (By the third year, almost all students of French have either learned enough grammar or given up on learning the language.) The books many editions testify to its usefulness. Another useful feature is the collection of exercises and tests to verify the assimilation of the information presented. -- show more Unfortunately (from my point of view), the book is not particularly entertaining, and examples are thoroughly pedestrian and bland, containing no literary, cultural, or historical material of any kind. show less

A good guide or aid for students studying upper-level French. Written in English, this books helps with the most complex aspects of French grammar, giving useful examples along the way.
